Greetings and Farewell:

Brenda T. WrightThis will be my final letter to the membership. I want to thank you for having enough confidence in me to be your 1st Vice-President under Bill Cotulla and Jay Watson's leadership and for allowing me to be your president for the last two years. It has been a pleasure serving you. I will miss the Chamber but it is time for me to move on and let someone else step up to the helm. All organizations need new blood in order for them to grow and prosper. Under your late presidents' and myself, we have grown this Chamber into a great Chamber.

When Bill and I came on board, we had very few members and hardly enough money to pay the bills. We grew this Chamber into 200 plus members and our financial situation is healthier today than it has ever been. Not one of us did this by ourselves, it was a team effort. I want to thank my officers and board of directors for serving under me and I want to thank each one of them for their dedication to this organization and for always being there when I needed them. I want to thank Melinda most of all for putting up with me and the demands I put on her at times in order to meet deadlines. I will miss each of you very much. Again, thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you. I wish nothing but the best for this organization and look forward to seeing great things happen in the future under the new leadership. May God Bless each and every one of you.

On behalf of the officers, the board of directors, Melinda and myself, we wish you a great Columbus Day holiday and a great fall season. We pray you and your families will enjoy the cooler weather and all that will come as this year comes to an end.

Brenda T. Wright, President
Cotulla-LaSalle Chamber of Commerce

OCTOBER COOKIE RECIPIENTS

Gaddis Pharmacy and Madison Pointe Apartments are the cookie recipients for October. This is our way of saying thank you for being a member of the Cotulla-LaSalle County Chamber of Commerce and showing our appreciation for them supporting us. Thank you for your membership.

BUSINESS OF THE MONTH

The Business of the Month for October 2016 is Days Inn. We appreciate their membership and their dedication in supporting our organization. I know it sounds like a broken record but if it were not for membership we would not have a chamber in Cotulla. We are happy they were chosen as the business of the month for October.

LASALLE COUNTY FARM BUREAU

The LaSalle County Farm Bureau held their Annual Membership meeting last Tuesday, September 27. There were quite a few members in attendance for the annual meeting.

81st JUDICIAL DISTRICT ATTORNEY

District Attorney Rene M. Peña presented a program to an audience of about 20 to 25 people on Human Trafficking and Criminal Enterprises. It was very informative and opened our eyes to the fact that it is happening right here in our own backyard. It is alarming what they are doing to our young people and how they are brainwashing them into believing that they will have a much better life. We as citizens can help the law enforcement just by keeping our eyes and ears open to things happening around us. If you see anything suspicious, please call the Sheriff's office.

COTULLA MAIN STREET

Cotulla Main Street will hold a Main Street Showcase on Wednesday, October 12, 2016. It will be from 6:00 to 10:00 P. M. on Front Street. There will be live music, food vendors and other entertainment to be enjoyed by the whole community. There will be a special dedication ceremony dedicating the mural that Gil Rocha did for the Cotulla Main Street. If you have not seen Patsy, please go by and tell her what a great job she has done with bringing the mural to fruition plus the whole downtown area. It is a great addition to our downtown area and it tells the history of Cotulla and LaSalle County. I understand we are to have some important dignitaries with us that evening. Please make plans to attend. Patsy will hold her monthly Advisory Board Meeting on October 10, 2016 at 12:00 P. M. in the back room of the Country Store.

CITY OF COTULLA

The city is still on target with all of their 2016 budgeted infrastructure. They are financially stable and that is a good thing. We have a great City Administrator and under his leadership I feel the city will continue to move forward and make our city a better place to live and one where people will want to make Cotulla their home.

COUNTY NEWS

I understand the county is still doing as well as the city and that is due to the leadership you have in the county offices.

Sheriff's office continues to put criminals behind bars. The sheriff and his department are doing a great job for this county.  We welcome Mike Bostwick back to the Sheriff’s Office in La Salle county and we wish him much luck in his new position as Lieutenant.

Cotulla PoolThe County Sports Complex has opened the pool. The hours are: Mon. to Fri. from 1:00 to 8:00 P. M. and Sat. from 12:00 to 8:00 P. M. Go and take advantage of our great swimming pool and walking trail.

Les Simmons with the Fire Department spoke at our last chamber meeting. He talked to us about the importance of having smoke detectors in our homes. They will be working with the Red Cross and our local law enforcement in getting smoke detectors installed in the homes who do not have them already installed. They do save lives. Les is our Assistant Fire Chief acting as the Fire Chief at the present time.

COTULLA-LASALLE COUNTY AIRPORT

We are so proud of our airport. They were chosen as  AIRPORT OF THE YEAR by Texas Department of Transportation at their 34th annual Texas Aviation Conference in Montgomery, Texas. We are very happy for the city, county and the Pages. Please take time to read the article in the paper.

M., and High School from 6:00 to 7:00 P. M. Please make plans to visit your child/children’s campuses and get to know their teachers.

The Fall Festival will be held on October 29, 2016 from 6:00 to 9:00 P. M. at the Ramirez/Burks Campus. Make plans to attend and support your school and our children.

I understand that last Friday night was Homecoming. I hope there was a great turn out for the game.

I read in the paper that our Cowboys are improving every week. Our Cowgirls are doing well also. We need to support these athletes whenever we can. Try to go to some of the games so they will know that we are behind them.
